ZIMBABWE IS BEING LED INTO ANOTHER ECONOMIC DISASTER

Zimbabwe is in serious trouble again. Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mushayavanhu now wants to make ZiG, the country’s new local currency, the only money people can use. But many experts are warning that this is a very bad idea. They say it will destroy the little that is left of Zimbabwe’s economy and push people into deeper poverty.

Mushayavanhu claims that ZiG is strong and stable enough to be used for everything. But that is not true. The so-called stability is fake because very few people are actually using it. Even the government does not use ZiG for important things like buying fuel, paying for passports, or settling certain taxes and duties. If the government itself does not trust its own money, how can ordinary people be forced to?

Professor Gift Mugano, one of Zimbabwe’s respected economists, said it clearly: “If ZiG is stable, why is government afraid to use it for all payments?” That question says it all. The truth is, most people and businesses still rely on the US dollar for anything that matters. Even government officials prefer US dollars when it comes to serious transactions.

Another respected expert, Professor Steve Hanke from the United States, warned about Zimbabwe’s money problems too. He said that the old Zimdollar, now replaced by ZiG, was the third worst currency in the whole world — only Venezuela and Lebanon were worse. He also said Zimbabwe’s money supply is growing too fast — by 122% every year. That means the government is printing or creating more and more money without backing it up. When this happens, prices rise quickly, and inflation kills people’s savings.

Right now, Zimbabwe’s inflation is at 79% per year. That means everything is getting more expensive, and salaries cannot keep up. If ZiG becomes the only currency, things will collapse again. Shops will raise prices. Transport will go up. Even bread and cooking oil will become luxuries for the poor.

We have seen this before. Zimbabweans remember carrying bags full of worthless money just to buy a loaf of bread. We remember our savings disappearing overnight. We remember the pain caused by bad decisions from ZANU PF and its leaders. They never learn. Each time, they blame everyone but themselves.

When Zimbabwe switched to the US dollar years ago, life became a bit better. People could buy things again. Prices were stable. But then ZANU PF brought back the local currency, and everything started to fall apart again. Now Mushayavanhu is repeating the same mistake, pretending it will work this time. But we know better. We know what comes next — suffering, hunger, and broken dreams.

Zimbabwe does not have the trust or systems needed for a strong local currency. The government is full of corruption. Investors are scared to bring their money here. People are surviving by miracles. Forcing them to use a weak and fake currency will destroy the little hope they still have.

Across the country, people prefer US dollars because they know it is safe and reliable. Shops, schools, churches, and hospitals all want US dollars. ZiG means nothing to them. Making ZiG the only legal money will not fix anything. It will only bring back the horror of hyperinflation and destroy people’s lives again.

ZANU PF and Mushayavanhu must stop playing with the future of this nation. The economy is not a game. People are tired of lies, corruption, and suffering. We cannot keep watching as they destroy everything we work for.

Zimbabweans must rise and say no to this madness. We must defend our right to survive. If we stay silent, they will continue to ruin us. When the collapse begins, it will be fast, painful, and unforgiving — and once again, it is the poor who will suffer the most.
