THE CANCER DEAL THAT SHOWS HOW ZIMBABWE IS DYING IN SILENCE

Wicknell Chivayo is smiling all the way to the bank again. This time, he has signed a new government deal worth more than four hundred million US dollars. The deal is for cancer treatment equipment. But the big question people are asking is simple: is it really about helping cancer patients, or is it just another chance for Chivayo to get rich?

Chivayo is very close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and because of that, he keeps getting big government tenders. He already got deals in electricity, defence, construction, internet, transport, and even the 2023 elections. Now he is also taking over the health sector, where people’s lives are at stake.

The cancer equipment deal was signed with the Office of the President and Cabinet. The government will pay Chivayo a total of one hundred and nine million dollars every year. The contract will last four years, meaning he will get more than four hundred million dollars in total.

Payments will start in March 2025. The government will first give him fifty-two and a half million dollars just two weeks after signing the deal. After that, he will receive nine million dollars every month from April 2025 until March 2026. Then the same payment plan will continue for the next three years. All this money will be paid in US dollars, sent directly to Chivayo’s bank account through electronic transfer.

Many Zimbabweans are shocked and angry. The country’s hospitals are falling apart. There is no medicine. There are no proper cancer machines. Doctors and nurses are leaving the country because their salaries are too low. People are dying every day because they cannot get treatment. But one man is being paid hundreds of millions of dollars by the same government that says it has no money to improve hospitals.

Why is this deal so secret? Why was there no open bidding for such a huge contract? Why does one man keep winning everything? These are the questions that ordinary citizens are asking, but no one in power is answering.

Some are also wondering if the cancer equipment will ever be delivered. In the past, Chivayo received millions for power projects that were never completed. Court records show how he failed to deliver but still kept the money. Yet now, he is being trusted again—this time with the health and lives of the people.

This is not just about corruption. It is about life and death. Cancer is killing many Zimbabweans every year. Most people only find out they have cancer when it is already too late. We need working hospitals, trained doctors, and real machines that can save lives. But instead of investing in that, our leaders are giving away the country’s money to their friends.

The people who make these decisions are playing with our lives. They are giving our future to one man because he is close to the President. While he becomes richer, the poor become sicker and weaker. It is a cruel cycle that must end.

Government tenders must be transparent and fair. They should go to real companies that have the skill and desire to serve the people, not those chasing quick profit. Zimbabwe cannot afford more fake deals. Every dollar wasted means another life lost.

This new cancer deal shows clearly how bad things have become. It is not about health or service. It is about greed and connections. This is why our country is stuck. Until this system changes, we will keep watching the same movie—where a few people enjoy luxury while the rest suffer in silence.

We must not stay quiet. This is not just politics anymore. This is about survival. This is about justice. Zimbabwe is bleeding, and we must speak out before it is too late. Enough is enough.
